Nicolas and Guillaume Génot travelled to Calabria to meet the key players who contribute to the quality of bergamot essence, an essential ingredient in the authenticity of this iconic speciality.
While there, they visited the bergamot essence extraction plant, spoke with Don Gino and Don Antonio, and learned more about the technical and quality requirements that guarantee an essence faithful to the standards imposed by the IGP label.
The trip continued to the bergamot orchards, where the raw material is grown, and then to the National Bergamot Museum, a place of remembrance and transmission of this unique culture.
Many thanks to Karine Marguerite Thierry, Director of the museum, for her fascinating tour, and to Professor Vittorio Caminiti, founder of the Bergamot Brotherhood, the Academy and the museum, for his valuable insights.
As the Nancy Bergamot PGI label celebrates its 30th anniversary, this journey reminds us that behind every sweet treat lie precise gestures, committed partners and shared standards, from the fruit grown in Calabria to the sweets made in Nancy.
